{I will let give you some time to grasp the idea that I, a 30 year old, never had coffee until 2 weeks ago}
While you ruminate on that for a little longer, I have managed to get through early morning classes and 6 years of work with a little help from my Coke problem - Coca-cola that is - my coffee substitute. I have always loved the smell of coffee but have turned my nose up at it because 1) I didn't need something else to be addicted to and 2) I didn't want my teeth to stain (I mean drinking Coke with a straw clearly prevented that from happening). So vain, right?
The five times Husband has had coffee in front of me he would always convince to have a sip. I would refuse every time. I am pretty stubborn
When we were in STL for Christmas I enjoyed a cup of joe every morning and was sad to head back home to no coffee in the mornings. My original disapointment was lifted when I remembered we had not 1 but 2 coffee makers in our basement that we hadn't opened yet from our wedding 2.5 years ago. My mom thought we should register for a coffee maker for when guests visited. I guess I am not a very good hostess. But now I'll be the hostess with the mostest (I should get that printed on a shirt or something). Who's our next house guest?!?!
While we are both thrilled to have a cup of coffee whenever we want, we haven't quite figured out how to work our Mr. Coffee. The first two times we used Mr. Coffee our friend T was there to help us coffee making newbies out. We thought we figured it out but when left to our own devices we quickly realized that was not the case.
{Scene}
Me: How many scoops should I put in?
Husband: Well it says "one rounded Tbs for each 6oz cup." How much do you want?
Me: Just my mug full so like 8oz?
Husband: Okay. So put in 4 scoops.
[I add 4 scoops then put scoop in sink]
Husband: Wait, did you put the scoop in the sink? I think we need to add 2 more scoops.
Me: Okay.
[I add 2 more scoops]
Me: Now how much water?
Husband: [thinking, pours in 2 measured cups] What? That comes to 4? I guess that measures servings? [starts doing math in his head]
Me: How do you turn it on?
Husband: [pause, still doing math in his head]
Me: How do you turn it on?
Husband: Well you need to put the pot on here.
Me: [small embarrased giggle] oh yeah.
We then spent the next 2 minutes waiting for the coffee to brew staring at Mr. Coffee with our mouths slightly open like to 2 kids who walked into Leggo World for the first time.
2013 is quickly shaping up to be the year of coffee for this girl!
As pictured above, our measurements are not quite accurate. Our mugs were only filled 3/4th of the way. Oh well, there's always next time:) And yes, those are Harry Potter mugs.
evidence of Husband's awesome. I know he'd want credit for this. |
Hope you are settling back into "normal" life/routine okay. My first day back is tomorrow. As much as I have enjoyed my time off I have really missed the little girls I nanny for and cannot wait to see them!
Cheers.
Oh man, as someone who is obsessed with coffee (should I be embarrassed?) I do appreciate this post. Welcome to the club!

haha thanks Dreaming En Francais! Loving your blog and look forward to future posts!
DeleteWAIT....Never had coffee until recently! Girly, you've been missing out! Actually, not really. I started drinking coffee when I got a boring desk job. Even before that, the only type of coffee I liked was Starbucks Cafe Mocha. I won't lie, I just can't have black coffee. but continue trying different brands and different types!
ReplyDeleteKudos for Hubby Whole Food shopping! Mine wouldn't know what I needed for his life!
